My Top 10 of 2013 {#6}

{I have decided to show and tell my favorite shots from 2013….often the pictures that grip me are not the picture-perfect poses, but the images that tell a story…}

I am so lucky that often, the people I meet as clients become friends. I got even more lucky when a client-turned-newborn assistant became a great friend this year! This has been the year of exploring something I have really grown to love, beauty and boudoir portraits. I talked at length in the original post about the difference between the two and why I think they are so important, but I wanted to share this little bit again:

I believe that as women, we put ourselves last. With time, energy, money, we are always sacrificing for our families, our jobs, and that’s not bad – but it is important once in a while that we honor and love ourselves enough to invest those things in ourselves. We cannot always run on empty and expect that we are giving our best to those we love. I’ve bought many a things that I loved for a moment, but boudoir and beauty portraits are the kind of experience that change you. forever.

I wanted to share those words again because I find that this year has been about so many challenges for myself and my family, in a way that has us centering on the things that are important above all else: family, health, and how we spend our precious time, energy and money. When I look at portraits like these below, those words ring so true to me – if I have any hopes and dreams for the coming year, they are to honor myself and those around me by loving myself a little more each day, and encouraging those women around me to do the same.
