It’s been a while since I’ve blogged about something that I’ve baked or cooked. My obsession lately has been bread, particularily no-knead bread. The great thing about no-knead bread is that you can make a little or a lot, and it is super simple. I usually follow this recipe here, and add an extra 1/2 tsp. of salt, and 3 tsp. of agave syrup (or honey).
The thing that I found last week, that has quite possibly changed our grocery buying habits, is this recipe. It truly is what it claims…5 minute bread. The dough is made and can be stored in the fridge for up to 2 weeks. Mine has been around for about a week, and after our dinner tonight, is over half gone. You can make a loaf of bread out of this, but we’ve been making dinner rolls each night, that are still warm and toasty when we sit down to eat. Last night was my birthday, and we had pasta. I made rolls to go with, and added garlic and rosemary to mine. Talk about delish!
Tonight, we decided to have hamburgers, but didn’t have any buns. But, we did have dough!
I took it out, shaped it up, and let them rest. Then it was into the oven on my preheated Pampered Chef baking stone, until they were done. I like my buns toasted, so I convined hubby to throw them on the BBQ with the burgers at the end, and…
Then we piled our rolls-like buns with our fixins, and dinner was served:
And the verdict: these pseudo-buns were far and away better than the store bought kind. We won’t be buying rolls or buns at the store anytime in the near future.
