My Top 10 of 2010 {#3}

{I have decided to show and tell my favorite shots from 2010….often the pictures that grip me are not the picture-perfect poses, but the images that tell a story…}

Every mom should get to have a picture like this of their kids. Happy, healthy, following their dreams and still learning to dream. I had the pleasure of photographing this family on New Year’s Eve this year, and it was a chilly one! This bridge is one of my favorite spots at my favorite local park. I’ve photographed tons of families and children here, and yet this is one of my favorite images of all time from this bridge. The big brother of the bunch, Matthew, is in the United States Army, and headed overseas to war soon. Think of the implication of those words. War. Soon. Not so long ago my siblings and I were in the shoes of those beautiful girls on that bridge, getting ready to reluctantly and proudly wish my brother well before he too went to war. Across the globe. Far, far from home, where in our opinion, he belongs. I know Matthew’s family shares that sentiment…home is where they would love him to stay, even as he bravely parts ways to go fight for them. This picture reads to me…well done, Mom. Debi, I hope you see what a great job you have done!
