I grew up on a pseudo-farm. Throughout the years we raised goats, pigs, cows, boarded some horses, chickens, rabbits and more barn cats than we could name or count. The trick was, most of the animals (especially my dad’s cows) were pets rather than serving the purpose of producing meat, eggs, etc. Out of the four of us kids, I am the only non-FFA, muddy boots, pig-raising one. I stick out like a sore thumb…especially when asked to chase my sister’s pig and I end up in 4 inches of pig muck and mud.
I’ve always said I would never live on a farm myself, and we will only have domesticated animals…cats, dogs, the like. My sister on the other hand lives on a farm, and loves it. At one time or the other, they have had ducks, chickens, a pig, horses, dogs, cats, cows, a goat, pheasants, turkeys…you name it, they raise it (both for fun and for eats). Last night I got to go out and take some pictures of their creatures…the evening started out because I wanted to take some pictures of their baby chicks, however once we got out there, how can you not take pictures of the rest of the adorable critters (and her nephews!)
