I am a bad photographer. While at camp, I took a ridiculously small amount of pictures. But not for lack of motivation. For lack of batteries, and lack of time. Man, I don’t think I have ever been so busy in my life. However, I think the ones I took captured a good portion of my camp week (and next year, I WILL NOT LEAVE camp without taking some pictures of the gorgeous creek…)
…where to start…
The campers: I have to say that we had an amazing group of campers this year (keep in mind, I have never before been to camp, but I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt that this year’s were awesome). Morgan, pictured above with our co-direction Marita, is about as cute and curious as they come. My job for the week was running the devotional time for the boys, and I would not have traded my group of guys for anything. We laughed (did you know that you can use your armpit or kneepit and a straw to make a farting noise?), I cried, we memorized and talked and had a ton of fun. I am so glad that 3 of my guys from church got the opportunity to experience this amazing camp, and I am so thankful for each of the campers and their energy.
The littles: This is Kaden. Kaden is adorable. And shy, curious, funny, and as we discovered, quite the ladies man. His mom was on staff at camp, and his brother was a camper. Anyone who belongs to staff that is under camper age is a little. Littles are rad. They run around camp, reciting bible verses for beads, making fun of Squid, and just generally brightening our days. Thanks for the laughs, guys!
The staff: I can’t say enough thanks to each and every staff person I met at camp. Above is Morgan, who’s mom was the camp nurse. Each person, from the other devotion leader, to our co-directors, to the littles leader to those of us staying in RV Row…you all rock! Without a doubt, camp would have sucked without the contribution of each and every one of you. I appreciate your prayerful dedication, your encouragement and kind words each and every day.
The counselors and CIT’s: You all deserve your own category. Above is Landen, the world’s best cheerleader (and perhaps dancer). I have to say that as much as the staff is the backbone of camp, the you guys are the hands and feet. Every day I was blown away by your insight, your caring words and actions towards your campers, the way you led with confidence. Each of you was a gift to the staff and campers this year. When I hear someone say that the youth of today is lazy, or careless, or on their way to ruining this world, I get so mad. Because it is groups of smart, witty (that would be you, Tiger King), sweet and genuine future world shapers like you that prove them wrong.
I had a blast at camp, and cannot wait to go back next year!
