My Top 10 of 2012 {#1}

{I have decided to show and tell my favorite shots from 2012….often the pictures that grip me are not the picture-perfect poses, but the images that tell a story…}

I’ve just realized that somehow in between the holidays and recovering from the flu, I never posted my #1 picture(s) of 2012! Shame on me! These pictures make me wonderfully happy, and yet are a little bittersweet at the same time. I am thrilled to welcome another sister into our family – we  are lucky to have good people marry into our little crew. And yet it is hard to wrap my head (and my heart) around the fact that three out of the four of us siblings are married off now!

The wedding was beautiful. Lindsey looked perfect in her dress, my brother grinned all day long from ear to ear, and the great Baker tradition of cake smashing carries on. Brother, no one is more happy than your siblings that you’ve finally met your match!

{I have decided to show and tell my favorite shots from 2012….often the pictures that grip me are not the picture-perfect poses, but the images that tell a story…}

This year I carried on the tradition of taking one picture a day of Landon for the month of February (because it is his birth month). I love this challenge, we don’t have an abundance of natural light in February so I have to get creative, but that is the best part. This past year I worked very hard to incorporate a lot of the important people in his life into his pictures, and will do so again. I am already brainstorming ideas for this year, getting a list of possible ideas started for days when we don’t leave the house and I am lacking inspiration.  I really love how I see reoccuring themes in each month, and from the first year to the second (like the high chair and the bathtub). And also I get to document the snow we have been blessed with both years! (If you want to see them all, click here).

{I have decided to show and tell my favorite shots from 2012….often the pictures that grip me are not the picture-perfect poses, but the images that tell a story…}

Today’s isn’t so much one picture as it is the story of Scarlett’s arrival. I had so much fun photographing homecoming pictures for Cherise and her family, and it was an honor to be able to capture these pictures for them.  The maternity session was so fun. Nolan is adorable, very inquisitive, and can you tell he adores his mama a lot?!  This one is my favorite shot from the afternoon, with the tin can “phone” shot a close second. Photographing Scarlett’s birth was nothing short of awesome. Cherise did a fantastic job, and being able to see them all together again (Dad arrived in town that day!) was a joy. And I’ve never met a newborn I didn’t like to photograph, so that goes without saying!

This family session was beyond fun. I love that Jenee and her family are always up for something crazy, value each other so much, and I can’t help but have fun when we get together for pictures! I love this idea (found on Pinterest), and I even carry a momento from it around with me on my camera… a little splotch of yellow paint on the side of one of my favorite lenses, that I refuse to wash off because it’s a reminder to let loose and have a little fun with those that you love. And if I get to capture it in a picture, all the better.
