Madsen {family portraits}

This is the second year in a row I’ve had the pleasure to photograph the Madsen family, and the second time was just as fun and fabulous as the first! I love little Sullivan, and Miss Adeline is absolutely one of the cutest little girls I’ve ever photographed! She is so sweet to work with, likes to have fun and laugh, and is so good with her brother! This year we were missing their father, Phillip, who is serving overseas in Iraq. I wish him a quick and safe return home to his beautiful and sweet family who misses him tons!

Faith, thank you and your family for your service to our country, and thanks for trusting me to capture these great memories!

Courtney & Sadie {mother/daughter portraits}

I went to school with Courtney, and it was so much fun to catch up with her yesterday and get some great portraits of her and her adorable daughter Sadie! I am in love with the fall leaves and colors right now, and Miss Sadie matched perfectly! (One thing I have to add, is how much I love getting to know all the little tricks for getting kids this age to smile… What did Sadie want to listen to? Lady Gaga! Good thing for YouTube on my phone!)

Courtney, your love for Sadie and her’s for you is obvious! Thanks for letting me capture it!

Tikvah {cake smash}

This past summer, I had the pleasure of meeting Tikvah and her adorable sister, Tinashe. Last week Tikvah turned one, and came to visit me (with the most adorable pink cake ever!) at the studio! I LOVED getting to photograph her again, and even more than that, I loved that she is such a little lady that she only wanted to eat her cake with her purple fork!

Miss Tikvah, I know your future is bright! You have a wonderful family surrounding you!

Bali {Travel Thursday}

One of the most impressive things about Bali are their evening dance performances. One that was my favorite (we attended three or four, I believe) was about Ramayana. These dancers have been training from a very young age (more of those pictures in the next post), and can contort their hands, feet and bodies in ways I could only dream of! There is a way that they hold their hands that captivated me every night! The dedication they show is astounding. What brings it all together, however, is the gamelan music. The gamelan is somewhat similar to a xylophone, and when you get 30 or 40 of them together, it’s beautiful and exotic.

The thing to pay attention to, as you look through these pictures, is the fire. These pictures are from different nights, but in several shots you will see them kicking or holding/throwing the fire ball. I think it was a ball composed at least partially of newspaper, that was an integral part of the night’s story.
