My Top 10 of 2013 {#5}

{I have decided to show and tell my favorite shots from 2013….often the pictures that grip me are not the picture-perfect poses, but the images that tell a story…}

Oh, Micah. So much to say… I’m not sure I’ve ever wanted for a little one this much, other than my own little ones. If you spend time around Lora, you can’t help but be infected by her brand of humor and deep way of feeling – she doesn’t do anything half way. Including have a baby. This little baby was wanted, waited for, hoped and dreamed about. And then, just like that, this chunky, adorable thing came flailing into her life, and into mine, and it’s just an amazing thing watching someone dear to you be such a darn good mother.

I know I say this a lot, but some of the most special sessions I do focus on the birth of new little humans. What a privilege it is to be trusted to capture these memories – they fly by so fast, that there isn’t time for a do-over. If I screw up a birth session, there is no second chance. Newborn sessions aren’t much different. Those first few days, you can’t ever get them back.

When I met Erin and Donnie, I didn’t just meet clients. I met a truly sweet and wonderful couple, who welcomed me right into their beautiful journey with open arms. It was a pleasure getting to know them, and getting to photograph some of Parker’s first special moments!

Welcoming Micah {birth photography}

Lora Weed is one of my most favorite people. Ever. She’s hysterical, honest and genuine, funny as heck, smart, kind and caring, did I mention she’s makes me laugh a lot?! She’s also super brave, Lora was one of my first boudoir clients and her maternity pictures were her third boudoir session in front of my camera! I was honored to photograph the birth of her second son, Micah Everett Watson Weed. I also can’t get enough of his name. Back to the birth, Lora is one incredible woman who birthed a ten pound, two ounce baby like a champ! It wasn’t an easy birth, but the good stuff rarely is easy.

My Top 10 of 2012 {#3}

{I have decided to show and tell my favorite shots from 2012….often the pictures that grip me are not the picture-perfect poses, but the images that tell a story…}

Today’s isn’t so much one picture as it is the story of Scarlett’s arrival. I had so much fun photographing homecoming pictures for Cherise and her family, and it was an honor to be able to capture these pictures for them.  The maternity session was so fun. Nolan is adorable, very inquisitive, and can you tell he adores his mama a lot?!  This one is my favorite shot from the afternoon, with the tin can “phone” shot a close second. Photographing Scarlett’s birth was nothing short of awesome. Cherise did a fantastic job, and being able to see them all together again (Dad arrived in town that day!) was a joy. And I’ve never met a newborn I didn’t like to photograph, so that goes without saying!
