My Top 10 of 2016 {#10}

{I have decided to show and tell my favorite shots from 2016….often the pictures that grip me are not the picture-perfect poses, but the images that tell a story…}

Births are crazy, wonderful, awe-inspiring things to witness and document. I always cry, always leave exhausted and empowered and proud of the mama I just watched work so so hard to bring a baby earthside. But they are crazy, and between the extra hands and unexpected happenings, shots like this don’t always happen. But when they do, what a special thing.

There is not much I hold more dear than documenting my kiddos as they grow. It is what continues to spark my passion as a photographer, and I am thankful for it. BUT – being able to witness this sweet little girl’s arrival and her life since then is definitely one of those things. Our group of friends was blessed with a few new babies this year, and Miss Elizabeth Jean was one of them! Fitting, as the first time I met her mama was at her maternity session with big brother Jace. This magical field of purple flowers was the perfect setting for their maternity session. Jubilee Rose {fresh 48}

Getting to photograph these new little souls right after they are born is such a magical thing. So many of the characteristics of newborn babies – the curly poses, the skinny legs, the wrinkly  the way they yawn, stretch and squeak – and don’t even get me started on their toes! – disappear so quick! It was so wonderful to visit Jubilee and her family in their home less than 24 hours after she made her grand arrival and get to capture their new life as a family of four!
