My Top 10 of 2014 {#2}

{I have decided to show and tell my favorite shots from 2014….often the pictures that grip me are not the picture-perfect poses, but the images that tell a story…}

One picture just wasn’t going to do this post justice. There is so dang much about this session and this family that I love, and that speaks so clearly to my heart about why I do this job. Life is funny; it’s awesome and hard and messy and wonderful – often all at the same time. I remember the first email from Christall (which was now over 5 years ago) like it was last week. She was looking for a photographer, and totally freaked my freak because she was a former client of MY favorite photographer ever, Tara Whitney, and here she was emailing me. Since that email, my how life has taken us on a crazy ride. We’ve had some pretty epic portrait sessions (apple orchard, Deception Pass State Park and mini marshmallow s’mores roasted over a match, faux ‘staches) but this one is going to be pretty hard to top. A sunset session on a gorgeous night on a gorgeous beach with gorgeous people – but more than that – real people with a hard and amazing story of loss and redemption – and these crazy sweet and ornery horses that kept us laughing most of the evening. After the sun set, and they loaded up the horses I sat in the parking lot feeding my sweet girl and I had the chance to soak it all in. Magical.

Craig {family beach portraits}

I’ve known this family for a loooong time – Kristin has been doing my hair for almost 15 years, and back when Brycen was shorter than me (although I can’t claim my taller-ness lasted awful long) I babysat him! We had a blast at the beach for these pictures, their willingness to relax and the genuine nature of their interactions (and goofiness!) really made my job easy. I always enjoy doing beach portraits, and I am excited to get a few chances to again this spring/summer! If you are interested, send me a message!

My Top 10 of 2013 {#3}

{I have decided to show and tell my favorite shots from 2013….often the pictures that grip me are not the picture-perfect poses, but the images that tell a story…}

In 2013, I met two of the most beautiful women, inside and out. I LOVE getting to do the beauty and boudoir portraits that I do, but there is no way I would have anywhere near the fun I do without these two talented women! Meeting them both was total happenstance, after my go-to hair/makeup gal cancelled on me last minute, and I’m so happy things turned out the way they did! Getting to photograph them this summer at the beach was super fun, something that I will never forget. Their images turned out in a way that matches their separate personalities SO well, we did a lot of laughing, and they are always happy to share their own boudoir experience with my clients while they get dolled up in the hair/makeup chair.

<3 making friends at my job!

My Top 10 of 2013 {#9}

{I have decided to show and tell my favorite shots from 2013….often the pictures that grip me are not the picture-perfect poses, but the images that tell a story…}

I thoroughly enjoyed my little trip to California this summer, and along the way we met up with Amber, Joe and James – good friend’s of my brother who have become good friends of mine. Amber and Joe were just about ready to welcome their new little guy into the world, and we spent a beautiful evening together on the beach documenting such a special time for their family.

Joe is in the Navy with my brother, and my honest impression the first time I met him was that he was a cocky jerk ;) I’m not sure I was THAT far off base (I kid, Joe!) but I’m really glad that I had the opportunity to spend some more time with him and get to meet Amber – who I am sure is to thank for his change of demeanor!

Shooting in a new place was not only a challenge, but quite a bit of fun too!

I could share all day, but I will leave you with just a few more favorites!

Beard {extended family beach portraits}

I love extended family portraits! What a legacy to leave, a fabulous portrait of all the people you love!  The Beard family came down to visit while I was at the beach, what a great location and I was thrilled that the weather cooperated long enough for us to get these great pictures!
