Giving is Awesome {2012}

This is my fifth year of doing Giving is Awesome, and we are still going strong! I have decided to change things up this year, so be sure to read below for details!

You know someone. You know someone who’s experienced a tragedy, is struggling to stay afloat, is raising kids while holding down more than one job, or is volunteering selflessly despite extenuating personal circumstances. You know someone who can’t afford custom photography, but who would cherish it this holiday season. You know someone who deserves a year-round reminder of the good things in life.
You know someone. I guarantee it.
I want to know who they are, and I want to give them the chance to experience complimentary custom photography – $1950 worth, to be exact. This year’s package is going to include a maternity session, birth photography and a newborn session, plus a DVD from each session. These moments in life pass so quickly – I would love to bless one family by helping them capture these memories.
Oh, and the best part? The person who nominates the winner receives a $250 print credit. What better reason to show some love could there possibly be, people?
The rules:
* You cannot nominate yourself, and the person nominated must sincerely be incapable of purchasing my services. (Being unable to make mortgage payments for a two-million-dollar-vacation-home in Paris does not qualify as sincere financial need.)
*The person being nominated must currently be pregnant, and due in January 2013 or later.
* The nominee must reside in Washington or Oregon (within 30 miles of Portland only). Tell me who you know, what they’re experiencing, and why they deserve my artwork. Please include a way to contact both your nominee and yourself as well.
* You must e-mail me the full story : mandiraemcdougall@gmail.com
*All nominations must be in by December 20th, and the winner will be announced on Christmas Eve — get nominating! I can’t wait to read all of your entries!
Open your heart to someone this holiday season — and thanks for giving me the opportunity to open mine.

Giving is Awesome 2011 {WINNERS}

Whew, is it really Christmas Eve already?! I think it has something to do with our mild winter, but it seems like just yesterday was October and here we are in a flurry of last minute baking and getting ready to swap presents tonight! Giving is Awesome is one of my favorite things I do all year long; today, the announcement is just the beginning. For the next year, I will get the privilege of photographing six wonderfully deserving families. Although only one will win the $1000 package, all of the other nominees will get a Deluxe Mini Session worth $250, and the nominator of the grand prize winner will receive $250 in print credit. Each of the people nominated this year has a unique story that brings them to my knowledge, but all of them have something in common: they have all gone out of their way to help others, even in their own time of need, and because of this incredible giving spirit they have, someone took notice. Someone cared enough to take 5 or 10 minutes to sit down and write me, sharing their story of generosity and struggle. For that, I am grateful.

And because a post isn’t a post without pictures, here are some images from past Giving is Awesome sessions!

Merry Christmas Eve!

Giving is Awesome {2012}

This is now my fourth year participating in Giving is Awesome. I can’t speak highly enough of the people I’ve met through doing GIA, and I am thrilled to be doing it again this year! I love how my clients have huge hearts and are willing to take the time to share all the touching stories they do!

{One of last year’s runner ups. Love this family!}

Giving is Awesome {WINNERS}

It is time for my favorite post of the year! I get to announce this year’s Giving is Awesome winners. Each year I am humbled by the stories that I read, of bravery and courage, determination and love.

This year the winner will receive a $1000 credit toward photography, and the nominating person will receive a $250 credit, PLUS (because I’m a big softie!) each runner-up will receive a complimentary Deluxe Mini Session.

This year’s Giving is Awesome winner is

(…….drum roll please…..)

MORGAN! A snippet of what her aunt wrote in her nomination e-mail.

“I want her to have an opportunity to SEE how beautiful she is. I want her senior pictures to show the world exactly who Morgan is – I want them to show the girl she is – the woman she is becoming – and I want them to show her how proud she should be of who she has made herself become.”

And because a post isn’t a post without a picture, here is a picture of one of last year’s winners!

I will be contacting all of the runners-up in the next few days! A HUGE thank-you to all who sent in stories for nomination!

Giving is Awesome {2011}

Giving is Awesome is something that I have now participated in for two years. I am so thankful that my client base, friends and family are willing to share the stories of those around them with me. Without further ado, here we go…
